| | Project Server: Broken Document Information Panel | | Petri Asikainen | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | I just double checked things here and I'm worried that this fix is working only with columns defined in Library, not when you are shared Site Ccolumns. I our system all problematic fields were same betweeen libraries. Set call columd/field as "SharedMultiline". If I compare $field.SourceId value between working libraries here all of them have $web.$lib.$field['SharedMultiline'].SourceID value same GUI like {daldjlajda-asdasd---...}. Now with your fix, value will be different between libraries. All tought DIPseems to work, but it does not get correct default value from library settings. I'll do some testing and post back.

Now, of course had it been, '2147750696' I would have been all over it. (Seriously, Microsoft, do you hate dbs's that much? It's bad enough to only give us a cryptic numeric code, but then to only list the error codes in decimal when the one displayed by the process is in hex...that's just mean.) Thank you so much for posting the solution to this problem. |

| | Workflow Office Task and the additionalNodes error | | Anonymous Coward | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | Hello J, Provided this has been posted a while back, I'm crossing fingers that you will check this page somehow. I'm getting the same error that you have; tried to isolate not serializable class members but wasn't able to locate any. Besides even if I found one, I probabyl wouldn't be able to mark them as private because they are mentioned and therefore read by objects inside the designer. This workflow is Microsoft's sample solution too, that I got from their site. The code that they provide is exactly the same with mine (as far as public/private members and everything else). If you have any suggestions, please let me know!!! IK |

| James Boman | Microsoft Touch Mouse Review | | Anonymous Coward | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | Well there you go - just looks like Im plain wrong about that. At the time I remembered the Microsoft Research video coming out and then the Apple Mouse being released - and I thought it was a bit fishy. From reading that summary it looks as though the Apple patent is for an optical system to detect multi-touch, and the Microsoft unit is capacitive. Both multi-touch, just different implementations.

All in all, I am very impressed. |

| | Hey - what happened to Continue Anyway in IE9? | | Anonymous Coward | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | The idea of pinning is that you want to access the actual site in question. You aren't really using website securely if you login even when the SSL cert is broken. If you are someone who could fis this, rather than a normal user who can only patiently endure the outage, you should need to take extra steps if such an eventuality occurs to ensure that you are safe - and this protection keeps the lazy from mindlessly clicking the button anyway (as you apparently yearn to). |

As it is I have noticed some odd behaviour in while editing RTE fields - but I don't know how much of this is caused by this bug. Basically if your client is okay with seeing the error in their browser, then its probably best not to install the fix and wait for the official patch to come out. J.

| | Microsoft reveals which carriers are blocking updates | | Alex Angas | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | Not sure that I'd say Optus is "clearly" better just yet! There's no other carrier in that table that is delivering February and still testing March except Optus (as of when I post this). I hope Optus and Telstra don't both end up being disappointing with this platform. Kudos to MS for publishing this! |
| James Boman | Windows Phone 7 NoDo Update ready since 19-Nov-2010 | | Anonymous Coward | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | Thanks for that info - makes alot of sense. The Venue Pro is a great device idea, with no other devices having that Blackberry profile - so I am glad it exists. I have worked with other Dell Windows Mobile devices in the past (the Atom) and there were driver problems back then with its camera, so I am not surprised they are having a few problems, as the higher system performance requirements with Windows Phone 7 will expose immature drivers. |
| | Windows Phone 7 NoDo Update ready since 19-Nov-2010 | | Anonymous Coward | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | Rumor has it the delay is caused by the Dell Venue Pro. That phone has been having some issues regarding freezing, resetting, and such. Dell asked Microsoft to help them work out the apparent hardware/software errors. Because MS wants to roll-out the update to all WP7, they postponed it until the Venue Pro bugs could be worked out... anyways, this is what some people have said. |

| James Boman | SharePoint UserProfileManager permission problems | | Anonymous Coward | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | Thanks Yohan! That actually makes alot of sense - as I remember writing a Staff Directory WebPart in the early days of SPS2007 without having this problem. I have created SPSite objects using SPContext.Current.Site.SystemAccount.UserToken but have not found a way to get the security token of an unrelated account (without having the password stored somewhere) Cheers, J.
|
| | SharePoint UserProfileManager permission problems | | Yohan Belval | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | When invoking SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges, the delegated code runs under the current context's application pool identity account. Shared Services typically run under another application pool with a different identity account. So when you try to get user profile info, the current app pool account doesn't have sufficient permissions. One quick fix: Give the application pool account from which you call your code the "Manage User Profiles" permission in SSP administration. The "correct" way: Create an SPSite object with the token from the SSP app pool user (or another user with sufficient permissions). Pass that SPSite into the SPServiceContext and then into the UserProfileManager. Oh and another thing, this security constraint seems to have appeared in SP2! Cheers, Yohan |

| | Task Scheduler failed to start - Error Value: 2147943645. | | Stephen J. Knill (olite) | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | To be more accurate... this error code means: Invalid Password and/or Login Information It does not mean the task can not be run as that user, just that you haven't set the user info correctly. Furthermore this "resolution" is only useful for those that want to run the application after they login, to run it on system boot-up it must be set to run whether user is logged in or not (for this backup, I'd have it running on log off... or all the files edited since login when the task was run will not be transfered.) For users such as myself that were adding a PowerPanel (Android Shutdown/Reboot/Hibernate control App) server application... Well, its just not really relevant. |

| | Kinect Sensor Placement–DIY TV Mount | | Calvin | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | Of all the DIY mounting ideas I've looked at, this one wins out! I don't have to worry about any permanent marks (on my walls or on my TV) and it's basically free! The one way I'm going to modify your solution is by simply strapping rubber bands across the base of the Kinect, attaching it to the coat hanger "rails". In quick response to the "why" post, it's partially because the Kinect is motorized to look up/down, not to mention a reasonably weighty unit, so yeah, you need a little more stability there. |
| | Kinect Sensor Placement–DIY TV Mount | | beeglebug | Hey! - I'm a real person looking to leave a useful and considered comment | I used a cheap kids toy set (a Meccano rip off) to build something that is functionally very similar to the official one, but cost me only £1.99 in parts! | | Kinect Sensor Placement–DIY TV Mount | | Anonymous Coward "Meep!" | I am trying to increase the page-rank of my site that sells sexual toys | Obviously the MS mount is factory fru-fru and the DIY solution here is a cheap alternative (though more detailed instructions/pictures would be nice). But why do I need a mount anyway? Nintendo supplied precut double-sided foam tape for their sensor and that worked fine. Granted, the Wii sensor was, unlike the Kinect Big-Brother eye, very low-profile and light-weight. It just seems, since my speakers are all separate from the tv, that a gob of foam tape on the bottom of the sensor's foot ought to do the trick. |
